Umbrella-like deeply cleft leaves emerge from the ground in an odd swirling motion, a large white pleasantly fragrant flower opens underneath (some of) these umbrellas, fruit that follows is quite large & ripens to yellow in mid-summer, spreads by rhizomes and can create large colonies, black walnut & clay tolerant, box turtles and other wildlife eat the fruits, likes soil rich in organic matter, pollinatred by bumblebees and other long-tongued bees.
