Great heads of rose-purple flowers from July through September, large leaves (up to 9 inch long) are arranged in whorls up the sturdy purple-ish spotted stems (hence the name!), very adaptable, tolerates irregular to seasonal inundation, attracts butterflies & pollinators, caterpillar host, salt & clay tolerant, good rain garden plant.
