This attractive clump-forming grass produces tawny bronze seed heads with white silky hairs attached to the seeds in late summer, leaf blades up to 1' long are attached to branching stems, plants turn a rich gold in late fall & winter, tolerant of poor soil (even clay!) & drought, salt tolerant, can grow in very acid soil, seeds in easily, good bird nesting cover, birds eat the seeds, food plant for the Cobweb Skipper (Hesperia metea), Zabulon Skipper (Poanes zabulon) butterfly caterpillar.
