Deep-pink 1/2" wide flowers open in the afternoon from June through September on branched flowering stems, basal rosettes of thin fleshy 1-2" long leaves, a great rock garden plant, found on rock outcrops & dry sandy soils, sun, 3-12" tall.

Native range: se. Pennsylvania, West Virginia, & south to Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama & Georgia. Rare in KY, MD, PA & TN
