Purple buds give rise to flat topped clusters of golden yellow 1” daisy like flowers atop erect flowering stems from April through July, long stalked basal leaves are round to heart-shaped up to 6” long - they are semi-evergreen (with a tendency for purple on the underside) & make a nice ground cover, smaller stalkless dissected leaves continue up each flowering stem, clump forming by creeping rhizomes, tolerant of most soils (even clay!), food plant for the Painted Lady (Vennessa cardui) & Northern Metalmark (Calephelis borealis) Butterfly caterpillars.
