Open spikes of 1" lavender-blue flowers from April through June (with scattered flowers for the rest of the summer), unusual shaped leaves up to 8" long are mostly basal & often have attractive darkened areas along the main veins, attracts hummingbirds, spreads by seed, likes sandy soil.
