Very showy spike-like clusters of lavender-white 1" tubular flowers in August, leaves 4" long at base of plant, spreads well by rhizomes (very well in light or sandy soil), will grow (and spread slowly) in dry and/or poor soil, dry to moist soil, sun to part shade, 2-3' tall. If the flowers are moved on the stem to face a different direction, they stay in the new position - hence the name 'Obedient plant'. Perennial.
