Large 3-4" wide lemon yellow flowers from May through August are very showy, this plant has no true leaves but consists of large flat oval pads which bear both fierce 1" sharp spines as well as small clusters of equally fierce short hair-like barbed spines, in late summer the barrel-shaped fruits turn reddish-purple & edible (if you know how to get around the spines!), well-drained soil is a must, salt tolerant. Please note: for best shipping results, our Prickly Pear Cactus is shipped bare root.
