Pyramidal flower heads with up to 30 or 40 large (4”) flowers per plant make this a truly spectacular giant, bright orange-red spotted nodding flowers with backward arching petals (which form the ‘cap’) from July to August, tiered whorls of glossy 2-6” narrow green leaves at intervals up the stem, moist (well drained) soil, sun to partial shade, well adapted to ‘woods edge’ sort of habitat, 5 -10' tall.

Native Range: New Hampshire to n.Florida, west to e. Arkansas & s. Illinois. Rare in FL, KY, NH, & NY
