Dense wands of small thistle-like purple flowers from August through September, leaves are linear & up to 1' at base of plant, likes fertile soil, good cut flower (often used in florists' shops), excellent nectar plant, attracts butterflies & hummingbirds, drought tolerant, moderately salt tolerant, good rain garden plant.
