Tall stems suddenly branch at the top to produce large flat arrays of white aster from August through September, each flower is only about wide, but each cluster of flowers can be up to 12 wide, 3-5 long simple leaves ascent the stem, sand & salt tolerant, attracts butterflies and pollinators, host plant for several butterflies and moths including the rare Harris' Checkerspot (Chlosyne harrisii).
