A simply adorable spring ephemeral, clusters of beautiful and fragrant small (> ¼” wide ) white flowers streaked with pink bloom from early April to late spring, flowers only open during sunny days – they nod and close overnight and during cloudy weather, the succulent narrow fleshy foliage melts away and goes dormant with the first very hot weather in early summer, grows from (edible!) underground corms called ‘fairy potatoes’, important nectar and pollen source for a wide variety of native bees. I love this plant! My childhood yard and woods were carpeted with these flowers every spring and I would bring tiny bouquets of them home to my mother.
