Loads of 1/2" or wider white flowers crowd the terminal & side branches of this variable aster from late August through November, leaves vary from basal leaves up to 3" long to very narrow 1" leaves on the flowering stems, drought tolerant, attracts butterflies, lovely cut flowers, dry to moist soil, sun to partial sun, 1-3' tall.
Asters are food plant for caterpillars of butterflies such as Silvery Checkerspot (Melitaea nycteis) and Painted Crescent (Phyciodes picta)

Native range: North Dakota, s. Ontario, & Maine, south to w. Georgia & west to Arizona. Rare in TN
