Crowded spikes of pale purple flowers mixed with purple bracts from July through September, leaves large (up to 4.5 " long) & ending just below the flower spikes, spreads well by seed though not aggressively, foliage is mint-like and very fragrant (it’s in the mint family!), plant this where you can touch it and enjoy the scent, attracts butterflies, nice cut flower, does well in average to moist soil, sun to partial shade (flowers are a darker purple in full sun), 2-5' tall.

Native Range: w. Ontario to Vermont & e. Massachusetts, south to Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, & Kansas. Rare in CT, KY, MD, MA, TN, & VT
